Rebecca Smith

Written by Rebecca Smith.

Rebecca has run her practice from Newport, since 1994, starting as a Systematic Kinesioigist and quickly adding Hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming to her list of qualifications.  She has built a credible reputation over the years in Newport and surrounding towns and villages, with clients also travelling from much further afield.  Rebecca trained with the Association of Systematic Kinesiology (ASK) in London, (now the Kinesiology Association (KA)) and was fortunate enough to be tutored by Brian Butler, one of the first people interested enough in Kinesiology, to introduce it into the U.K from America. The Kinesiology Association continues to thrive, constantly adding to its list of professional members, Rebecca is one of them. Wanting to offer more, she completed Emotional Freedom Technique training and Life Coaching, allowing her to offer a fully integrated programme to address her clients needs.

Alongside Life Practice UK, Rebecca co-trained an NLP, Hypnotherapy and Coaching Diploma, where she facilitated delegates to achieve the highest qualification in these areas.  She also held a role of Support Consultant to all Life Practice Associates, lending guidance and help to those starting out in business for the first time.

Rebecca has many published articles in all aspects of health and wellbeing and is a guest author for 'The CAM Coach', which has been a top selling business book. She has also contributed articles to IHCAN Magazine, a most highly respected journal in complementary and alternative health, written by leading edge practitioners. Rebecca is also Section Editor for the 'In Practice' feature of IHCAN Magazine, highlighting a wide variety of CAM practitioners and their work. She is responsible for interviews, the compilation of case studies and case histories, and reports on news in the CAM arena including clinic openings, events, new research and job opportunities. Working alongside Simon Martin, IHCAN Magazines editor, Rebecca has been involved in the expansion of this feature.

Rebecca uses Systematic Kinesiology to restore energy balance to the body. She says, ”People forget that the body, if given the adequate requirements of water, nutrition, exercise and rest, will work at its optimum levels, free from pain and disease. The body is a self-cleaning, self-healing organism and to remain that way, needs regular attention.  If this process is interrupted, then you can expect the body to be come diseased, often fatally."  Kinesiology uses gentle non-invasive muscle testing to discover imbalances and depending on the responses obtained, a variety of approaches may be used to address the system's problems. Systematic Kinesiology is truly holistic in its approach which is important, as it ensures that the whole body system, structural, chemical and emotional is addressed and not just the symptoms.  This allows the session to be individual.  As Kinesiology addresses the body as a whole, most conditions can be substantially helped and relief obtained.  “I can use Kinesiology to help the youngest of babies, children and adults all very safely"

After initial training in Kinesiology, Rebecca went to The Proudfoot School of Clinical Hypnosis and Psychotherapy in Scarborough, feeling that she needed to offer more to her clients in the way of emotional support. ”Life is becoming more stressful and I noticed that more and more clients were presenting with emotional issues.  Some schools of thought believe that illnesses have their roots in emotional issues, and I felt Hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming fitted the bill!"  And many years later, these two therapies are an integral part of the service Rebecca provides at Newport Complementary Health Clinic.

Hypnotherapy allows the client to access their sub-conscious mind, the part of the mind that is running the body.  The sub-conscious is the "guy who's running the show" and it’s that part that needs to be worked with to enable the client to makes the changes that they want.  The sub-conscious mind can be compared to a vast memory bank of information which through hypnosis, allows the client to access it and remove the root emotional cause of their problems.  "While hypnosis allows for new suggestion to become automatic process, dealing with significant emotional events causing the symptoms can provide, not only huge relief for the client but enables the change to be long lasting.

I consider all areas of a person’s life in a hypnotherapy session, adult, adolescence, childhood, birth and time in the womb before birth.  Past lives often hold significant traumas that "mirror" or have connections and parallels to current lifetime events and if relevant, I use techniques to help a client be free from emotions in those lives.  Not in everybody's belief system maybe, but all I ask is for my clients to be open minded."

Also hugely significant, but slightly more unusual, is the area of genealogical traumas. These are significant emotional issues, which can be passed down to us through our genes, from our ancestors. Although this is a relatively new area of research, it is thought we can inherit emotional traumas through the bloodline of our relatives, from our parents, grand-parents, great grand-parents etc. "In my experience, releasing events in this area can be the end to many years of pain and misery."

Neuro-Linguistic Programming is used as a stand alone set of techniques or combined with Hypnotherapy to provide a client with the resources to be the person that they want to be "the results are often instantaneous with a client feeling immediately relieved"

Rebecca has helped many people using Hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming with problems such as phobias, stress, confidence and self esteem, relief from smoking, public speaking, eating disorders, weight issues, obsessive compulsive disorder, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety, panic, unwanted habits etc etc.

Life Coaching and Emotional Freedom Technique training has been undertaken with Life Practice UK which allows Rebecca to offer a full 'package' of skills to clients, with the aim of ensuring long lasting change.

"Bringing Life Coaching to the clinic has been an exciting move and offers you a wonderful opportunity to remove obstacles from your life, enabling you to achieve your full potential. Over the course of the agreed number of sessions, a variety of techniques are utilised to ensure success. Our Life Coaching model offers you the chance to address your un-met needs, which if left, could impact on the way that you feel every single day".

"To be a recognised, credible practitioner is very important to me and I have had to undergo strict professional training and continue to adhere to specific criteria, allowing my name to appear on various professional registers. As a Kinesiologist I am a member of the Kinesiology Association www.kinesiologyassociation.org. This allows me to use Dip.KA after my name. I am recognised as a Senior Qualified Hypnotherapy Practitioner with The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR), www.general-hypnotherapy-register.com, which is seen as SQHP. My training with the UK Guild of Hypnosis Practitioners (UKGHP), a training facility and governing body for hypnotherapy and NLP, shows as C.M.H, C.Hyp, P.N.L.P.  To remain a member of professional establishments, I have to participate in Continual Professional Development (CPD), to keep up to date with current techniques and procedures, allowing me to offer my clients the very best service that I can."
